#68 - Skin Edit - Purito Cleansing Products [REVIEW]

Hello! So, it’s been a while. Precisely I haven’t blogged anything since July. Most of my content has been moved to Instagram and I guess I’m going through a bit of a funk with being burnt out at my day job and finding it overwhelming combined with inferiority complex from looking at other people’s content.

I know, we’re all meant to be inspired but for those other people who are a bit like me who get negative/down - it’s okay. It’s fine to feel this way as long as you pick yourself back up again.

COVID-19 is hitting hard in the UK and working from home has been fine with me. It’s a different kind of stress with lowered motivation levels. I’m not working out as much as I’d like to, not as proactive as I’d like to. Not getting my shit together like other people.

And having to remind myself that THIS IS OKAY.

So anyway, pushing all the negative self-talk aside, I bring you a long over-due review of this power cleansing duo from Purito. This isn’t actually their official cleansing duo - I just use them as I understand my skin to like and what works for me.

Purito has never really disappointed me and whilst they have gifted me both of these products, I have to say I would happy spend money on these and have bought a good number of Purito products to gift to my friends because that is how much I like the brand.

I’ve taken this shot a while ago and have actually emptied the cleansing oil. As with all Purito products, it’s lives up to the value - both of these have lasted a good few months as I was gifted them back in October I believe? And I’ve just finished using the cleansing oil and almost finishing the Snail BB Cleanser.

You know, part of my struggle with reviewing is that you genuinely do need to use the same product for an extended period of time and my first bad habit, especially when it comes to serums, is to use literally everything new at once and then panic because I don’t know what is causing the breakout.

Cleansers are different for me - I stick to one cleanser at a time, with this exception - I use the Cleansing Oil as first cleanse and the BB Cleanser as second cleanse.

Double Cleansing is one of the things that have truly transformed my skin. I have always double-cleansed since I first started skincare (and used Clean & Clear which never worked and made my skin worse), but the kind of products you use for your cleansing can really take that forward.

I’ve been through my fair share of harsh cleansers to know what cleansers are meant to feel like and by far my favourite cleansing oil is the DHC cleansing oil that just does the job so well, but the Purito Cleansing Oil is truly not far from it. So here we go

N.B. I’m also trying to figure out a good grading system to use, any ideas hit me up.

Green Clean Cleansing Oil

Texture - 5/5

I mean, what can be so different right, it’s an oil, it’s liquid-y. It’s your basic, straight forward oil, but it does feel lighter as an oil compared to the likes of DHC. The incorrect conception that it doesn’t do as well when it comes to cleansing - we’ll come to that later.

This oil goes on the skin light and it emulsifies beautifully to take the dirt off the skin and still leaving the skin feel moisturised and not stripped

Efficacy - 5/5

As a cleanser, it does the job - it’s really decent for a first cleanse and it cleanses well. It “melts” the dirt and everything on the surface of your skin and to be honest, if you’re not wearing make up and don’t want to do a second cleanse (I get lazy sometimes too), this would work as both 1st and 2nd step cleanse, and you can use this twice because it doesn’t strip the skin, as with all cleansers.

I am confident to use this cleansing oil to take off makeup (and sunscreen). Of course it depends on how heavy make up you’re using, if you’re using heavier make up then it would make sense that you’d need to do this maybe more than once.

So this is half my face - disclaimer - I always like to take off eye/lip makeup with eye/lip makeup removers rather than with cleansing balm and oil just because I use a combination of products that are oil/water proof with different textures and so forth, plus lash glue, so the most effective way for me to remove eye/lip make up is to use a dedicated eye/lip makeup remover that you shake and then proceed with removing. This is by far the most gentle for my eye area rather than constantly rubbing with a cleansing oil/balm.

So! That is why I am only looking at removing foundation on half my face.

As you can see, the cleansing oil has pretty much immediately “melted” the foundation from the face at first application. You can see the underlying redness in my skin.

All cleansing oils and balms need to emulsify to do their job in actually removing stuff from your face. Not only does it further cleans the face, but now you can also wash the oil off. You’ll see that with balms this is super important for the product to work.

Once you emulsify you can see the product just coming off. Actually coming off. See the stark difference in my skin with/without makeup after rinse off.

Finally, a cotton pad swiped across the cleansed face to show little to no product residue from the cleanse.

And the best thing? Skin doesn’t feel stripped from it after; however, i have to say that the after-cleanse feeling is nicer using DHC compared to Purito and I’d still prefer a balm over oil. I’ve been bit more into oil lately because I go through phases of using types of products and rotate but this oil has not disappointed

Ingredients

And the part I am least confident to talk about because frankly speaking, it is truly down to the formulation to make the ingredients work. But nonetheless, if this product contains anything that you know your skin won’t like then obviously don’t use it

Oils: Olive Oil, Sunflower Oil, Jojoba Seed Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Grape Seed Oil

I’m not particularly fond of any of these oils in particular, maybe jojoba oil for my cuticles, but these oils don’t come near my face normally. Not a lot of people like some of these oils, particularly olive oil and sunflower perhaps because of the texture of them.

And for those who just use these oils straight on to face, get out, don’t even bother.

These oils are obviously formulated properly for the product and although I’m not fond of these oils per se, I don’t hate them at all in this product.

Looking at the breakdown of the effects of oils:

  • olive oil creates a moisture barrier and keeps the skin hydrated

  • sunflower seed has essential fatty acids that help with sebum control, skin calming

  • jojoba seed oil is anti-oxidant and pushes out impurities in skin

  • sweet almond oil is moisturising for dry skin and calming the skin

  • grape seed oil pushes out impurities and help thoroughly cleanse

All in all, the formulation from these oils help cater to different skin types in cleansing and maintaining moisture after. The formulation is mild but oh so effective. Whilst I don’t agree with Purito’s marketing of “natural”, I really do love their products.

Snail All in One BB Cleanser

Texture - 5/5

This cleanser’s texture is…WEIRD. But not in a bad way. It’s a combination of a jelly, but also slimy. This doesn’t really foam up massively and just feels so good on the skin. This 2nd step cleanser is love at first cleanse for me. There is also a scent to it but I don’t hate it.

Efficacy - 5/5

As a second step cleanser, this is pretty much perfect and is the dream. You don’t need a lot to lather up slightly between fingers and then rub onto face to cleanse and after washing, the skin still feels hydrated. The website recommends using a konjac sponge but personally I’m not a massive fan of them because I’m not the cleanest person around…

Anyway! On the OTHER side of my face, I used this cleanser to take off the makeup - yes it also takes make up off, however I don’t find this as effective as the cleansing oil. If you don’t wear makeup and just sunscreen, this would be sufficient to take off the dirt from your face at the end of the day and your face will still feel clean.

But I will never give up double cleansing. I’ve tried using just this during this lock-down period because I’ve been makeup free for freaking ages now and on my trip outside to do groceries I generally only have sunscreen on. This would take off the dirt and sunscreen off and maybe it’s just a habitual thing, my skin feels cleaner when I double cleanse.

So with this you won’t need to emulsify; the tip to using cleansers like this is to rub it between your hands/fingers to lather/foam up before rubbing on your face so you’re not lathering the product on your face before it cleans.

You can see that it does still take makeup off and does a pretty decent job at it so if you wear light makeup, you can probably still get away with just using this. However, running a cotton pad after you can see that there is some makeup residue left and I still did a second cleanse on that side of the face.

As a 2nd step cleanser, 5/5, as a first step cleanser, 3/5. I do, however, think it’s a personal preference, if you use this twice and chances are that you’ll remove the makeup from your face anyway.

Ingredients

Naturally, snail filtrate.

A lot of people, especially in the west are so “urgh” with snail mucin but let’s not forget that you’re not actually directly putting snail slime onto your face. That is not how products work - these are formulated into the product which means you get the good stuff from the snail mucin which is miles better than just putting snails on your face because it just won’t work and you’d have snail crawling all over your face.

Snail mucin/mucis is great for maintaining hydration and irritation/calming skin down (they also quote help with scarring, wrinkles but I can’t track that). It’s mean to be a low pH cleanser at pH 6. It’s still a little higher than a lot of low pH cleansers on the market but so far it’s not been an issue for me. The snail mucin also means that after cleansing, your skin will still feel hydrated and not stripped like some super foamy cleansers on the market.

This also contains my favourite centella asiatica extract, and green tea extract, to help the calming effect.

Conclusion

Both of these are definitely on my re-purchase list, or purchase list, seeing that these have been gifted to me. I have bought the snail BB cleanser for a friend who has repurchased her 2nd bottle so something must be right about the product.

Both of these combined make such a good cleansing duo and they last. You don’t need a massive amount every time (I do though because… that’s just me) you cleanse so it will last a good while on your skincare shelf.

Pair this with the fermented complex 94 boosting essence and you have a pretty powerful cleanse & tone selection (it’s literally one of my favourite toners).

Purito has not done me any wrong so far and I will always, recommend checking their line of products out. The formulation of their lines are gentle and kind of skin so good for sensitive skin or skin that gets irritated easily - read: their entire centella line.

Cosmetic Jolse - Skinsider UK - Yesstyle UK

And that is it, a possibly unncessarily long review but hopefully this was a good enough read.

Til next time - I am hoping to do more of these and just generally create more content here and instagram now that we have more time to ourselves from the commute and to keep myself occupied..
