I’ve been so excited about this - when Skinsider first announced that they will be doing something with Renee (aka Gothamista), literally could not sit still.
Renee is the first Youtuber/Influencer in skincare that I truly feel was producing great content on skincare - not only are they in-depth, they are educational and relatable. I have learnt so much over the years since I’ve started watching her content and inspired me to really care about my routine, the products I was using and learning about all the new technology in skincare. And now I’m a wannabe blogger in beauty.
Whoever said “don’t meet your heroes” cannot be more wrong. Renee is one of the most genuine person ever. Truly. She is my skin hero.
The format of this event was more of a “fireside”. General Q&A,, and Q&A from the crowd. There was so much to take in and Renee’s answers are educational, warm, and real.
Having spent most of my life in Asia, I’m not new to the concept of K-Beauty and multi-step routines, but really knowing K-Beauty? I don’t think I know beauty and skincare the way I do until I came across Renee’s content. I can totally relate when she said that K-Beauty is what really fixed her skin - because it absolutely did for me once I get to know more and being more introspective with my own skin.
A little weird saying this but it was really good to see Renee talking about skincare as act of self-care and self-love. It is everything I believe skincare to be - as much as I joke and could do with a drink to take the edge off a rough day, what saves me at the end of the day is skincare. It’s a reminder that I am good to myself; that no matter what happens, I am putting myself first and care for myself, then I am ready to take on the world again.
Renee’s skin philosophy is evident in her content, the way she answered our questions and the immense knowledge that she has and curiosity in finding out more and sharing with her community. The belief that k-beauty is a culture and not a trend I’m sure resonates with everyone. And of course, to hear her thoughts on the buzz words in beauty is a breath of fresh air - because those are what a lot of marketing and influencers use to attract attention, but also to know that some of these buzz words are good, some, like cloudless (???) skin, are bad.
I don’t think I’d be alone in saying how much joy she’s brought to everyone in the room that day, and how kind she is, taking time to speak with everyone individually.
Appreciate this is really just a massive fangirl post on the event! Big shout out to Karolina and all at the Skinsider team to put this together (and helping out sorting my idiotic mistake in getting the ticket…!). The event itself is wonderful as always, at an exclusive club - love the atmosphere and mood to it all.
Let’s check out this phenomenal goodie bag.
What a stunner of a goody bag filled with products from Urang, Lagom, Wish Formula, Real Barrier, Cosrx, and Klairs. So many new things to try out how handy to have minis for travel! I also have a signed bag from Renee because I am such a fangirl. Most excited about the 2 Klairs products that have been on my list for FOREVER. I wanted to destash before I get them but a hoarder like me has SO MUCH. Just so much.
FINALLY. Big shoutout to the skin care community! I am in absolute awe of just how much everyone knows about skincare, their philosophy, beliefs and just how passionate they are in skincare. It’s one thing to meet one person like that, another to meet a whole community like that. I have a long way to go!
