If you follow me on instagram (@jaye.hicks), you'd have seen I posted an image of this product a while back. Since then I've been using this every night as part of my routine to test it out. But because I am terrible at documenting things< i can only tell you how I feel about this and how I see results are instead of showing you results of it because I have failed to take before/after image of my face. It's always is a little bit of a problem as skincare products really need time to really work and change your skin and meanwhile, I could have used another product that has another positive/negative effect.... 

Anyway, so here goes anyway.

First of all, I got mine from iHerb along with some of my other purchases, but because it was shipping from the US...customs tax peoples! Infuriating really! Since then I have found out that you can actually purchase this from Amazon(.co.uk) for my UK peeps, and to be fair, for an ampoule, it is at a very reasonable price (currently £12.83 here)

Most people commented on that post are along the lines of "ewww...." or "ehh...??", and of course, some men who just don't get it just go, "why tho?". Snail mucin has been in Asian skincare ranges for years. It's well known for repair, rescue and anti-aging qualities. The main thing I wanted it to do is fade acne scars - I'm going to admit this sin right now: I pop my spots. There. I said it. And because I pop them and my spots tend to carry deep loathing and resentment, it means that my acne scars take forever to heal. It's basically damage on multiple layers of my skin and I know it's a deep damage because of how dark my scars are.

I have hormonal breakouts and they tend to some one after the other (annoyingly!) and with all of them being incarnate of resentment, all of them leave some pretty nasty dark spots on my face. I can conceal them as much as I want, but when that makeup all comes off, I am still left with a spotty-ass face, just without the gross white heads.

This product not only a concentrated serum of snail mucin, but it also has other active ingredients like hyaluronic acid, Cocoa extract that help with skin hydration.

As with all ampoules, use after toner and essence (if you have this step in your routine). I use it before face masks as well so it feels like I'm locking all the goodness in with a sheet mask before applying moisturiser afterwards.

The pipette within - this is probably approximately how much you'll apply on your face, depending on how large your face is.

The consistency of this serum is thick compared to some of the other The Ordinary serums that I use. However, it is easily absorbed into the skin (especially if you have dehydrated skin!) and doesn't at all feel sticky. Doesn't actually smell like anything either because, please remember, they didn't just grab snail from their gardens and squeeze the life out of them to put into this bottle - note the word "filtrate" on the bottle.  A little research tells us that snails are provided a clean and warm environment for them to naturally release their slime, which is then filtrated multiple times to ensure purity.

Can we stop ew-ing about this now?

Yes, check out my dehydrated and dry-ass hand. With a drop of ampoule I can spread it across the back of my hand and then easily absorbed into the skin. You can immediately see effects of the hydration, but most products you apply will have this effect too if your skin is as bone dry as my hand.

After using it for several weeks every evening in my skincare routine, I've noticed that the deep scars on my skin faded quicker than they normally would. They are are not kidding with the healing properties of this product! Wrinkles though, I'm not entirely sure, but again, it's one of those things that takes a long enough time to really notice the difference. I would say that if you're looking for anti-aging, this would definitely help in the long run as it also contains anti-aging peptides and vitamins.

It'll feel a little slimy upon application, but it doesn't take long to get it all absorbed into the skin and you can continue layering on your other products in the routine.

It's a hydrating ampoule, but not as hydrating as if you applied hyaluronic acid on its own. The healing properties are surprisingly good, especially at that price range. I could definitely see results of it after 2 weeks of using it.

So I upped my game and applied masks and other serums on top of this serum and like expected, the scars healed a lot quicker than normal.

Research tells me that the product also contains elastin and collagen, 2 great ingredients for anti-aging, but quite frankly, I'm at a prevention stage so other than the lines around my eyes, it's hard to determine whether the anti-aging side is true. I suppose with all anti-aging products, you just have to somehow believe in it.

If you've read some of my other posts though, I really do think hydration takes a huge part in anti-aging, especially when I think some premature wrinkles and fine lines are results of dehydrated skin.

So, all in all, this ampoule is high on my repurchase list - I definitely noticed a big difference in scar healing ever since I added this product in my skincare routine, which was exactly what I wanted it to do. Hydration though? I always apply hyaluronic acid on top of this and lock it all in with a good moisturiser.
